Project overview

“Building Algerian Youth’s Future” (BAYF) aims to offer a comprehensive, locally-sensitive and inclusive analysis of the main challenges of the Algerian labour market to date. Young Algerian women and men suffer high levels of unemployment and lack the adequate skills that are necessary to be competitive in the labour market to obtain career-launching jobs. BAYF works to build brighter futures for Algerian youth throughout the country.

Supported by the UK Government and implemented by Education For Employment, BAYF increases knowledge of the Algerian labour market and youth unemployment and uncovers ways of contributing to stability so that young Algerian women and men can build a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities.

The comprehensive labour market analysis conducted research in the target cities of Ouargla, In Salah, Oran, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Ghardaïa, Tamanrasset, In Amenas, and Béchar. This in-depth study allows for crucial knowledge on the Algerian labour market to be uncovered. Algerian professionals are encouraged to engage in countering youth unemployment, thereby directly reducing its deterring effects on society. Throughout the labour market research, stakeholder engagement events, and dissemination of findings, special attention is attributed to gender in the labour market and the consequential effects of unemployment.
